Slow down. Stop by. Say hello.
There are some paths that are meant for you to walk alone - to see, hear and experience things you would have probably missed in the company of others. Allthingsdmc.me #allthingsdmc #blog #blogger #blogpost #journey #selfreflection #browngirlbloggers #writer #author
Why I wrote and published Peers, Cheers, and Volunteers: "I was inspired by the children and volunteers I worked with daily, and realized that children are affected by volunteers in many positive ways. I want children to become familiar with the value of volunteering, and why empathy is such a virtue." #peerscheersandvolunteers #author #childrensbook #childrensauthor #booksforkids #blackauthors #childrensauthor #education #volunteer #youth #children #communityservice
I spent time facilitating a one-day course on "Community Service" with a dedicated group of middle-schoolers. They decided to take the course because they wanted to learn about how they can help people. During the course, they learned about some nonprofit organizations in NYC and around the world that are meeting pressing needs, steps to planning and facilitating their own volunteer project, and even had a live q&a with my dear friend currently in Uganda serving as a Peace Corps Volunteer. We then went on a community walk around the lower east side, and the students decided they wanted to start a food drive after taking notice of people in need. They actually want to hand out ready-to-eat meals, and with focus, drive and dedication - I'm sure they will. To take action, you must have the proper mindset. The tools and guidance needed will follow. Age places no limits on the ability to help others. Do good. #communityservice
Once upon a time, I didn't understand stillness. The kind that creates a simple balance by blocking out the noise. The noise of faces, words, actions and ideas. The kind that makes you feel born again, entering the world anew, conscious of your spiritual presence. The kind that is unaware of "ego."
