Happy is the girl (this girl), who travels the world!

With each day, I realize the true power of my thoughts, and I am constantly noticing my life shifting. “Change the way you see things, and the things you see will change,” right?

Right!

As time carries on, I find myself enthused by tapping into the secrets of life, realizing that all I have to do is remain in alignment with what makes me happy, and indulge in that! I’m a curious being, and that curiosity forces me to wander, fearlessly. Embracing the magic of change! I just want to experience things for myself, and connect with others!

Anyone who knows me, is well aware that I love to write, travel, paint, work with children, did I say travel? I’m really grateful for the people in my life who pay attention, and support my dreams. Over the summer, my brother sent me a link to apply for a travel program called Remote Year. He somehow got an idea that it would be perfect for me.  I don’t like to drag out a story, so short story long, lol – just kidding… long story short, I applied, was accepted, and I leave to travel the world with a group of 50 other people in the next few days! Over the course of a year, myself, and this group will be living in 12 different international cities for a month at a time. Happiness is possible. I really don’t know how far I’ll go, but on my way, I’m taking all of my dreams with me – to the line where the sky meets the sea, the trees, the bees, the everything! I’m excited to actually focus on blogging about my travels, and I’m curious to know what my audience would like for me to share. Comment below!

Drink of Water.

It doesn’t happen right away, and that could be discouraging. When I think about something I’ve wanted really badly, having almost a yearning sensation for it, I had to wait. I’m not referring to the feeling of having a craving, getting the food desired, and feeling satisfied after, it’s deeper than that. It’s the moment I say to myself, “I want to get a degree in Journalism. I want to write a children’s book. I want to start painting. I want a place to call my own. I want to travel the world. I want…” It’s understanding the things that will truly add much value to my life, and my lifestyle, that will not come easily. It is having the desire for whatever I want, and surrendering once I’ve released those desires to the universe. I know in due time, I’ll have all that I’ve ever asked for, and until those moments I must prepare myself to receive them.

We all have desires, ones that we keep to ourselves, and ones that we’ve shared out loud, but what are we doing to prepare to receive all that we’ve been asking for? It’s a matter of consistency. It’s a matter of aligning all things within our lives to complement and support our desires.

I love to travel. I have a passion for it, and therefore much of what I do subconsciously revolves around it. I choose not to shop for materialistic things, but I make sure I have what’s essential to my way of living. At the start of 2014, I created a vision board of all things I wanted to manifest that year, or eventually. Looking back, within the year of 2014 up until now, everything on that vision board has been brought into fruition. The destinations I wanted to travel to, the characteristics I wanted to build on, the possessions I wanted to withhold, the jobs I wanted to transition into, the spiritual awakenings I wanted to experience, everything! It didn’t happen over night, over the course of one year, but they did happen! I worked toward it, never losing hope. Never giving up faith. I knew, in divine time, I’d have what I asked for, because I spent time preparing myself for it. Along the way, it was the little things, such as receiving a gift of a globe last year, with an inscription that reads my favorite line, “Happy is the girl who travels the world.” It was no coincidence, I attracted that into my life. It was meant for me to have, and now it sits in a special place in my home, as a daily reminder to be consistent with my passion for traveling.

It’s the moments in time that we must appreciate first. It’s the steps we have to take, to get where we want to go. It’s the faith we have to carry in our hearts, the spark we have to keep alive in our spirits. It’s the joys we have to feel wholeheartedly, the gratitude we must express, the hunger we have to feed, and the thirsts we have to quench. It’s the moment along our journey, when we simply become tired, but feel we don’t have time to take a break. That’s when we have to pay close attention to our paths. The universe knows us, sees us, and understands us. The universe conspires when we are tired, when we are ignorant, and tests us by placing before us exactly what we need in that moment, for the strength we need to carry on.

So, on my path, when I’m on a mission, but I know I’m feeling a bit tired, and “out of nowhere” a coconut that has fallen from the tree, is placed at my feet – I know there is no coincidence. It’s my choice to step over it and keep going, or stop to take the break I need. It’s the moment I ask myself if I’m too busy focusing on my destination, or am I open to all of the beauties and gifts presented to me along the way. I don’t know about you, but when the coconut falls, I’m stopping to pick it up. I’m figuring out a way to crack it open, take the sip, and revitalize the energy I need to carry on…

The dream is there, it’s not going anywhere, but the gratitude is even more sincere when there is no rush in getting to just that one place. Yet, when having arrived, the appreciation becomes magnified. We all have such unique and inspiring journeys. There are special stories we have to tell, and it’s fact that we live off of people’s stories.

It is in that moment when I was really tired, and feeling thirsty, that a coconut appeared. It is in the moment I took a sip, and the moment I was grateful for stopping to take the break. If I didn’t stop, I wouldn’t have noticed the tree, that provided the coconut, and all of the beauty surrounding it. Let’s do our best to pay attention to the signs, and when necessary, stop for a drink of water.

I watched the movie Collateral Beauty on the plane as I traveled to Costa Rica, and it touched me. It brought to surface, things I think about often – yet in a more abstract light: Love, time, and death. We all want love. We all need more time. We all fear, yet will experience death. In the movie, some characters became Love, Time and Death – to bring lessons to life. The lessons were triggered by loss, and the collateral beauty that comes with it. Loss changes us. Loss of a dear loved one, changes a person. I experienced that, and that loss introduced me to a new way of understanding life. The collateral beauty I choose to see is the spirit that outlives the flesh. Life is a short trip. Let’s think:

“We can’t go against time. Time should be upset with us if we take it for granted. Einstein calls time a stubbornly persistent illusion.” Time cannot be tracked, should not be tracked. We have all the time in the world! Time is a stubborn illusion!

“Love, is the fabric we are made of. We don’t get to choose who we love, and who loves us. We don’t get to say goodbye to love.” Accept love in all variations, and live abundantly. Love, it’s the only answer to the question “why?” Love, is the only reason to do all things. Don’t try to live without it. Love is the light and the darkness, the sun and the storm, in laughter and in pain. Love is all.

Do we pretend that time is unlimited? That death is unrealistic? We can make things up to be whatever we want, that’s the power of the mind, and it’s just that great. Death reveals things, it’s symbolic of change. It can also be an illusion. The body dies, and the spirit continues to live, louder.

In this moment, value all things present, and all things absent. In time, it will only be a memory, we will only be a memory. Let’s be fearless, and fully emerged in all things connected to love. Live out loud, have a dream, make it real, work hard, succeed, be grateful, see beauty in all things, and with that mindset, we are forever young.

Far beyond anything we can see with our eyes. Until infinity, as long as we believe. Take care of our minds, and our hearts, and exist forever. Keep a healthy self. Keep light. Keep love. Be light. Be love. Declutter and detach. Flow freely; be whimsical. Have a clear understanding on how to embrace and release all that comes and goes. Be still. Connect with the trees. Study nature. Become its reflection. Listen to the birds when they sing. Reject fear, judgement and discomfort. Welcome courage, and be courageous. Watch the changes right before our eyes. Don’t deny them. Pay attention to the evolution, within and around us. We are spirits. Let our spirits direct our steps. Trust in that, because it feels right. How much do we have to cover up? Layer up? Dumb down in make-up? Do not hide. Do not die. Do not subside. Awaken! Let’s get centered, balanced, lifted. Disconnect from “things” and get charged up! Find purity, and value that. Find innocence, and capitalize on that. Find radiance, and become drenched in that. Find the light, and never lose it again. Sing and fly as wild as birds. Grow strong and deeply rooted. The sky is beautiful. The ocean, so soothing. Let’s get back to nature, so much, that we become it.

Piece of Me

Happy 2017! Just a year ago, I started this blog and I thought it was going to mostly be about my children’s book, my paintings, and my travel adventures. Little did I know that I’d be inspired to dive deep, and focus my writing on self-reflection. As you can see, there are no limits here. Each post is a reminder of how I am growing, and my sincere interest in helping others reveal their truth. Let’s be real, and do whatever it is that truly makes us feel a sense of joy!

I don’t always know what to say. I don’t always use the perfect words to interpret how I’m feeling, and in those moments, I am really grateful for my outlet of painting. I actually find it to be better than verbal expression. If could never speak again, I’d be okay with that – because I have art. It speaks for me, sometimes better than I ever could. It is becoming a way of life. I need it. I crave it. I live for the opportunity to splash and blend colors onto a blank canvas, and share the result with others. I’m even more grateful to the people who see something special within each piece, and have one or more hanging within their humble abodes. That means a lot! Anyone who owns a DMC Original, truly has something that is one of a kind. Each painting is symbolic of how I was feeling in the moment. There are no intentions to create anything in particular, simply freedom of expression and creativity. The appreciation people have for that is invaluable. Anyone who owns a piece, has a piece of my heart.

This year, I’m going to continue on my journey to freely express myself, through art, writing, travel, and whatever else, because there are no limits. Stay tuned…

The Root is Only the Beginning…

Thank God for the morning sun.

It’s gotten me through many days. Shoved its way through my blinds. The rays reaching…touching my heart and my mind. Bringing me to my feet, to defeat, yet another day. Rise up. Make a way. Make a mark. A new start, toward making yet another difference. The part where I’m in yet, another instance of something so indifferent – and turn it into gold. I don’t always agree, but it’s not up to me, because when God speaks… I listen. I rise to my feet, and walk the walk. And the talk, oh, the talk. A woman of little words. Find more secrets in what’s written than what’s heard. I’ve learned to flow. Ain’t no shame in this way I choose to grow. I AM LIGHT. Walking the path where trees line up. Tall. What a greeting. What a meeting. What a way to treat a woman who’s Queening. I am reminded of the reasons for the seasons. People leave. Gravity. Growth is inevitable; steady changing. Rearrangements. Life calls upon. Shaping my character. Bringing to life, my purpose. Change, you’re welcome here. Just as much as a root is only the beginning, we need the nurturing. Love of all kinds – from a mother, from a partner, from an offspring. They all ring, a different bell. Let’s talk circle of life. Let’s walk, a mile, together. Noticing the leaves, changing. The leaves that have fallen to the ground, to create opportunity for new ones to grow from the branch, with permission from the root. Let’s take a moment. Extend your understanding. Nothing lasts forever. Not you, not me. I trust this…the road traveled. I trust the obstacles faced. Lessons unraveled. I am all for the journey, with my backpack filled of no expectations, just a space to collect memories. I remember you. My heart is an unlimited safe haven with open doors and cracked windows. I have so much love flowing throughout, plenty to share. It floods my soul. As the rain pours to nurture trees, flourishing from a root that didn’t give birth to itself, yet it grows. Acknowledging what is, never forgetting what used to be…

It was so peaceful atop the rock, which was perfectly positioned for one to take in such astonishing natural beauty. Wow, Jamaica – you’re gorgeous. There was such a strong sense of stillness as I sat there, taking a moment to be grateful for all I am, and all I have. I admit, again and again, “It’s the simple things that makes me happy.” It’s life’s purest and most innocent beauties that I admire so much. In those moments, I am reminded to show gratitude for good health. Not great or excellent health, because I believe we all suffer from some sense of mental, physical, spiritual and emotional imbalance. I’m grateful for loving and supportive family and friends, opportunities to travel, living dreams out loud as an author and artist, and working in an admirable field of education where everyone around me is helping to inspire and teach children (our future). I love this quote, “When you change the way you see things, the things you see will change.” I believe that to be true. It is all about perspective. So, when I think of the guardian angels that have been placed in my life over time as my very own spiritual guides, I am now viewing them from an angle of appreciation. Physical loss of near and dear loved ones may be the greatest form of pain that any human endures, but we get to a point where we are even grateful that their spirit carries on. As much as we miss sounds of their laughter, warm hugs, and kind words, it’s comforting to know that they are always in our hearts and guiding our steps. Over time, the light in which we see them shifts from darkness. It does not have to be sad forever…because we all know we’re going some day, and when that day comes we’ll become guardian angels ourselves. Losing their laughter, warm hugs and kind words, should only encourage us to laugh more, hug more and speak kindly to others, as often as we can. Our guardian angels feed our destiny. They are light. It is a struggle to always see them in this way, but it is the best way. So, I’m grateful for them, everyday, in every way. I try my best to keep an attitude of gratitude, because I’ve noticed that when I’m gracious and grateful, blessings that were never even imagined begins to surface, and my life experiences truly turn out to be just as beautiful as nature.

Excerpts from an open letter I wrote in 2015.

Love brings out all things possible. It brings fascination. With love, you learn compassion. You learn courage. You learn confidence. You learn strength. You learn peace. Most of all, you learn selflessness. Love is the one action that will allow you to find your passion. It will lead you to live well and to do good for others – to do good in the world. It will allow you to affect others in ways unbeknownst to you. As Maya Angelou puts it, “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” Love does that. With love, you find compassion, inspiration, respect, truth, discipline, and so much more.

Passion is that little voice in your heart that says, “You can be and do whatever it is you FEEL.” Passion is so inspiring, because sometimes it may bring you to a point where you are knocking down barriers; it allows you to be different and to be accepted for your differences. Passion allows you to illuminate from within. Passion is your motivation! Once you’re passionate about something, you then have to find the confidence to own it. Once you find the confidence to own that passion, well then it’s time to gather the courage and put fear behind you – because life is about to take you on a ride!
I have a passion to help others and I have a passion to be creative. I am a writer, a photographer, a traveler, a painter, a volunteer, and a conscious human becoming. I am love. My passion for writing brought along the interest to write and publish my very first children’s book, Peers, Cheers, and Volunteers. It’s a story that highlights the value of volunteering and caring for others. I simply tied my two passions together! What are your passions?

I think our responsibilities, as humans becoming is to be conscious of life. What does it mean to be ALIVE? You are here, and that only means that you are powerful! You have the power to take yourself on a journey; the journey of your dreams. What does it mean to be a human becoming? It means that you can dream, and you can live that dream. You are at the point where you are daydreaming, fantasizing, and looking forward to all of the wonderful things you will do in YOUR life.

Let’s live lives doing the common good. When you are truthful with yourself and release the love you have within, you will have set yourself free. May your heart allow you to live a fulfilled life loving others throughout the world as best you can! And, when people ask you who you are – you’ll be able to give them an answer other than a job title.

Lastly, I want to share with you a dear friend of love; they share an invaluable relationship. Faith! Have faith, and you will find your way to anything you could ever want (and much more) – because the magic is, that it already exists! Read More

Light.

When our nighttime thoughts are opposite from our daytime thoughts, let’s acknowledge there being no coincidence that darkness changes the energy of our minds. We’re dependent on light, because it serves as an advantage of being able to see. If in the daytime, when the sun shines and we can see down the street – we feel confident in knowing what lies ahead. That confidence then reflects on the way we view ourselves. During the day, we know who we are, and where we are going. We find time to laugh and smile. Then the sun sets. Our energies change, and we are faced with a reminder that we can’t see as clearly in the night. The universe emphatically impacts our behavior. At night, we ask ourselves different questions. “Who am I?” “Where am I going?” We spend time feeling sad; having pity on ourselves. There is a bit of an identity crisis. These moments can be intense. In some cases, depression is fed. If we view ourselves as icebergs, we may finally realize that we all have more commonalities, than differences. We are growing in various directions. Some of us choose to develop rapidly, on a narrow and erect path; quick to abandon disliked portions of ourselves. Some of us are growing deep and widespread; genuinely focused on understanding thyself and connecting the dots between where we’ve been and where we’re going. Some are ignorant, and the others are conscious, many are a mixture of both. If we don’t acknowledge every piece of ourselves, we will forever deceive, be deceived and live in delusion. If we know that we have the power to manipulate our surface, then let’s take that to the next level. Instead of falsely attracting unwanted energies and becoming the unwanted energies – change the energy! Icebergs have hidden portions. It’s unhealthy to leave reality in the dark. During the night, we are forced to find our own light. The light of the soul. The only light that could ever shine brighter than the sun. When our nighttime thoughts begin to resemble our daytime thoughts, let’s acknowledge there being no coincidence that we, in fact, have the power to change the energy of our minds. We, in fact, are light.
