Lose Count

Coney Island, Brooklyn, NY. 2010.

It’s deeper than that. Deeper than the surface, the grains of sand, the ocean. Deeper than the flesh, the bones. It’s all worthless if you serve no purpose. Deeper than bank accounts and possession amounts. We’re still searching. This game of life, we’re all players, until we dive deep, peeling back the layers. We’ve been dressed up, made up, to forget what we’re really made of… Just love.

Just a spirit.

Just a soul, without limits.

Just wondering where the winds were born, where they traveled from, and where they’re off to next. Just wondering how the oceans stay put, all that water, and only once in a while does she hurricane her tsunamis.

Now’s the time to check your baggage. What are you carrying? Everything can’t go, and in due time – none of it can go.

Check your baggage, what do you possess, – is it un·quan·ti·fi·a·ble?

Imagine That.

“I decided long ago, never to walk in anyone’s shadows. If I fail, if I succeed, at least I lived as I believe.”

…about living your dreams

When we were young, we did not hesitate. We did exactly what we wanted to do, because all we knew was that moment we were in. We didn’t understand the concept of “future.” Look around, that’s all everyone is obsessed with. It’s a shame. Life is swept away, because it’s controlled by what has not yet happened. The flowers that stand today are overlooked, because people want to see the flowers that will grow tomorrow, as if that is more interesting, more valuable.

When we were young, we did not hesitate. Even when we were told not to do something, we listened to ourselves and did things anyway – it was human instinct to do that. It’s natural to listen to thyself, and allow the spirit to move you. We’ve been told “no” over and over again, to the point it has conditioned us to be fearful of simply trying. Reverse that condition! Change your environment, and go to a place where you believe in your desires and potential. Say “yes” to your dreams.

When we were young, we did not hesitate. We listened to our inner child. We played. We laughed. We vividly expressed our emotions. It was okay. It still is! We got hurt. We got back up. We tried new things. Then we were told what to do, all the time. That’s not always necessary, especially when the people telling you what to do don’t know what they’re doing themselves. We’re all just figuring it out. Stop walking in their shadows. Listen to yourself. Do what feels right. Let your spirit guide you. We’re all inspired by individuality, so just be yourself. Close your eyes, dare to dream, and when you open them – I hope and pray you’re where you want to be.

“Imagine if you just friggin’ did the damn thing you wanna do. Imagine that!” -Ava DuVernay

Golden Spirits

Caye Caulker, Belize. 2019.

Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened.” Dr. Seuss

Our intuition is golden. We have the powerful ability to read between the lines, and to hear silence ever so clearly. It’s the reason we move the way we do. It’s the reason we may find ourselves attached and detached. It’s the reason we are free or bonded. It’s why we find ourselves saying, “No obligations, no expectations, no disappointments.” When we have little to no expectations of people, and just hope for their honesty and integrity – we’re in a safe place.

Our intuition reminds us that it’s in control, and when we disregard it – there’s a great lesson to be learned. So, we vow to lack disappointing ourselves. We become encouraged to do as we feel, to live life to the fullest, and to stay in the moment. We become inspired to express ourselves, creatively. We stay true to ourselves, we reach for the stars, and we travel the world. We live the lives we dream of, and we wait for no one to join us on our journey. We know that when we do this, when we live our lives in this manner, the universe blesses us with more and more – exceeding our expectations, growing wilder than our imaginations.

We are so grateful for all that we have, and all that we do not have. We look forward to change, growth, new. We look forward to dreams becoming reality. We stay close to our emotions, doing as we feel, and honoring ourselves. We know that our soul needs to breathe easy, and we let it. This looks like flowing, floating, swaying, soaring, glowing and growing through time. This looks like forgetting the limitations of ourselves as humans, and being golden spirits. This looks like freedom.

“Intuition – the sense of knowing how to act spontaneously, without needing to know why.”

When you show yourself who you are, believe it the first time.

When people show you who they are, believe them the first time.” Dr. Maya Angelou

Flow

Snapseed

Split, Croatia. 2017.

This is a collection of poems I wrote, all inspired by the spirit of water.

As we embark on this new year, may we cleanse our spirits, may we be unpredictable, may we be immeasurable, may we be a source of power, may we be the flow, may we ride the wave, may we be simple, may we be divine, may we be peaceful.

May we too, be as new, as the day, as the year, as the stars and the moon.

Happy New Year!

BLUE
Blue, the way you mend
The way you heal
The way you send signals
Signs of protection in your reflection
Thanks for teaching me how to be
How to flow
How to see
How to blend, freely
Thank you, blue
BIRDS OVER WATER
Bird’s eye view
You see me
I see you
Near or far
Wherever you are
Over the blue sea, under the blue sky
Low to the ground, or up real high
Flowing with grace
Soaring with gratitude
Peace, you see me? I see you
With my bird’s eye view
HOLY
Baptize me in the deep blue
I want to become the closest thing to you
Take me to your nature
Give me the characteristics of its beauty
Allow me to flow with grace, everyday
The ripples will carry throughout time, effortlessly
Questions will dissolve
Life will be magnified
Baptize me in your blue sea
When I am brought up, I will be cleansed, free, flowing through time as you, because you are me
NATURE FLOW
I’m sensitive
After her water broke, I sensed the ifs
I was alert, aware, and know only to ever go with the flow
I sense the vibes and know that all things in the moment is just exactly the way it’s supposed to be
Just carry on with the steam young grass hopper, and you’ll have all that you’ll ever need
SPLASH BLUE
Cleanse me of anything that is not true
Free me of my burdens
Bring all things to the surface
Good, bad, bubbly blue
I like the way you look, I admire you
I like the way you sound, your vibrations are sweet, nothing new
You are the purest of pure, the surest of sure, the most gorgeous without ever trying
Everything that meets you, complements your flow
So much peace, so much beauty, you don’t even know
There’s envy in your presence
Others want your grace
But you are just as unique as all the others, yet you’re smart enough to know your place – and with just that, you’re more than ok.
Splash me with your blue
WHEN IT RAINS
Pour down
Be so strong, so magnificent, so raw
Rinse worries free of time
To no longer exist
The curiosity of the what-ifs
Don’t change your mind
When nature calls, and the winds flow, the trees grow, don’t question the blue waters that show their true colors
LIGHT UNDER  WATER
I can see through you
My flesh is the same, only buried in your grace
You simply move around me
There are subtle bubbles
Huddles of puddles
Yet, no one complains
There’s a light under you, confirming that you are indeed real and true
There’s no super light needed to change your hue
Just a sparkle, a twinkle, and little star in your waters, reminding me of how simple and special you certainly are
STILL
Still like you
Easy, like you
Beautiful, like you
Simple and true
Light without and within
Illuminating all the same
Wavy, like you
Deep and shallow mysteries, like you
Troubled and unbothered, like you

Customized Happiness

IMG_8620 (1)

Prague, Czech Republic. 2017.

I’m sitting in my temporary apartment in Prague, and I’m meditating on all the things that make me happy. Did I just say that I’m in my apartment, in Prague? Being able to say things like that is amazing! I then channel having thoughts of how people customize experiences, to bring them happiness, emphasizing on the fact that yours and mine may look nothing alike. I find there to be so much beauty in that. No judgements, and no comparisons, just happy in our own ways.

I’ve cried many tears, and if I’ve learned anything from those purifying experiences, it’s that I look and feel so much better when I’m smiling. In addition to that, those silent cries have led me to realizations of the exact things and experiences that would make me want to do the opposite of crying…

Right now, my happiness is not rushing through life working a 9-5 to survive, but developing a plan to start a business that aligns with my passions. It’s recognizing opportunities, and taking risks. It’s understanding and appreciating divine timing. It’s traveling the world, becoming well-rounded, and knowing that home is where my heart is. It’s seeking clarity. It’s being spontaneous, and seeking adventure. It’s finding peace in the moments I choose to spend in solitude. It’s shopping for groceries and spending time in the kitchen, listening to music for my soul while preparing a healthy meal. It’s planning ahead and giving myself enough time to walk most places, for my double dose of exercise and mediation. It’s actually seeing and doing. It’s expressing myself by being creative. It’s keeping things short and sweet. It’s having my greatly desired morning cup of coffee! It’s spending time to think of ways I can help other people. It’s being present, having little to zero doubts and regrets. It’s about less being so much more. It’s taking ownership of where I am in my life, and acknowledging the work I’ve done to get to this place. It’s about customizing my happiness, and knowing that yours and mine do not look alike. What makes you smile, and what makes me smile are so different, and even that makes me happy! It’s about seeing people in pure states of joy, for different reasons. It’s about finding balance.

This smile is bright for many reasons, and when I’m not smiling, it’s because I’m giving my life a wash, shedding all of what has become unnecessary.  I’m smiling because, it’s important to me to remain true to myself, and keeping things simple. I’m directing my energy toward living a life of fulfilling dreams. My travels have plenty to do with each of these blog posts, in my own way. I may not elaborate on my “touristic” experiences within each city, but know that traveling, alone, contributes to the happiness I possess. That, for me, is enough. My intentions are to capture the changes I’m going through, and potentially provoke you to ponder your experiences in life, how they made you feel, how they made you change, and what you find yourself intentionally doing to fulfill your own sense of happiness.

I’m writing this blogpost from my temporary apartment, in Prague. I am where I am, doing what I’m supposed to be doing. The same goes for you.

Next month, I’ll be living in Lisbon, Portugal, and I look forward to that experience adding to the customization of my happiness.

How Far I’ll Go.

DMC.jpg

Bali, Indonesia. 2017.

Happy is also the girl who quits a job that would prevent her from making dreams come true!

Happy is the girl who takes risks.

Happy is the girl who prefers to be optimistic.

Happy is the girl (this girl), who travels the world!

With each day, I realize the true power of my thoughts, and I am constantly noticing my life shifting. “Change the way you see things, and the things you see will change,” right?

Right!

As time carries on, I find myself enthused by tapping into the secrets of life, realizing that all I have to do is remain in alignment with what makes me happy, and indulge in that! I’m a curious being, and that curiosity forces me to wander, fearlessly. Embracing the magic of change! I just want to experience things for myself, and connect with others!

Anyone who knows me, is well aware that I love to write, travel, paint, work with children, did I say travel? I’m really grateful for the people in my life who pay attention, and support my dreams. Over the summer, my brother sent me a link to apply for a travel program called Remote Year. He somehow got an idea that it would be perfect for me.  I don’t like to drag out a story, so short story long, lol – just kidding… long story short, I applied, was accepted, and I leave to travel the world with a group of 50 other people in the next few days! Over the course of a year, myself, and this group will be living in 12 different international cities for a month at a time. If this is something you’ve ever considered, imagined, dreamed of, check it out – Remote Year!

Happiness is possible. I really don’t know how far I’ll go, but on my way, I’m taking all of my dreams with me – to the line where the sky meets the sea, the trees, the bees, the everything! I’m excited to actually focus on blogging about my travels, and I’m curious to know what my audience would like for me to share. Comment below!

In just a few days, I’ll be living in Croatia, for a month!

If it’s a dream of yours, get to work, because it’s so possible of becoming your life!

“Not all those who wander are lost.”

“The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page.”

“The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.”

“Wherever you go becomes a part of you somehow.”

“The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes.”

“The traveler sees what he sees. The tourist sees what he has come to see.”

“Travel makes one modest. You see what a tiny place you occupy in the world.”

“The journey is the destination.”

“Borders? I have never seen one. But I have heard they exist in the minds of some people.”

Drink of Water.

Bali, Indonesia. 2017.

It doesn’t happen right away, and that could be discouraging. When I think about something I’ve wanted really badly, having almost a yearning sensation for it, I had to wait. I’m not referring to the feeling of having a craving, getting the food desired, and feeling satisfied after, it’s deeper than that. It’s the moment I say to myself, “I want to get a degree in Journalism. I want to write a children’s book. I want to start painting. I want a place to call my own. I want to travel the world. I want…” It’s understanding the things that will truly add much value to my life, and my lifestyle, that will not come easily. It is having the desire for whatever I want, and surrendering once I’ve released those desires to the universe. I know in due time, I’ll have all that I’ve ever asked for, and until those moments I must prepare myself to receive them.

We all have desires, ones that we keep to ourselves, and ones that we’ve shared out loud, but what are we doing to prepare to receive all that we’ve been asking for? It’s a matter of consistency. It’s a matter of aligning all things within our lives to complement and support our desires.

I love to travel. I have a passion for it, and therefore much of what I do subconsciously revolves around it. I choose not to shop for materialistic things, but I make sure I have what’s essential to my way of living. At the start of 2014, I created a vision board of all things I wanted to manifest that year, or eventually. Looking back, within the year of 2014 up until now, everything on that vision board has been brought into fruition. The destinations I wanted to travel to, the characteristics I wanted to build on, the possessions I wanted to withhold, the jobs I wanted to transition into, the spiritual awakenings I wanted to experience, everything! It didn’t happen over night, over the course of one year, but they did happen! I worked toward it, never losing hope. Never giving up faith. I knew, in divine time, I’d have what I asked for, because I spent time preparing myself for it. Along the way, it was the little things, such as receiving a gift of a globe last year, with an inscription that reads my favorite line, “Happy is the girl who travels the world.” It was no coincidence, I attracted that into my life. It was meant for me to have, and now it sits in a special place in my home, as a daily reminder to be consistent with my passion for traveling.

It’s the moments in time that we must appreciate first. It’s the steps we have to take, to get where we want to go. It’s the faith we have to carry in our hearts, the spark we have to keep alive in our spirits. It’s the joys we have to feel wholeheartedly, the gratitude we must express, the hunger we have to feed, and the thirsts we have to quench. It’s the moment along our journey, when we simply become tired, but feel we don’t have time to take a break. That’s when we have to pay close attention to our paths. The universe knows us, sees us, and understands us. The universe conspires when we are tired, when we are ignorant, and tests us by placing before us exactly what we need in that moment, for the strength we need to carry on.

So, on my path, when I’m on a mission, but I know I’m feeling a bit tired, and “out of nowhere” a coconut that has fallen from the tree, is placed at my feet – I know there is no coincidence. It’s my choice to step over it and keep going, or stop to take the break I need. It’s the moment I ask myself if I’m too busy focusing on my destination, or am I open to all of the beauties and gifts presented to me along the way. I don’t know about you, but when the coconut falls, I’m stopping to pick it up. I’m figuring out a way to crack it open, take the sip, and revitalize the energy I need to carry on…

The dream is there, it’s not going anywhere, but the gratitude is even more sincere when there is no rush in getting to just that one place. Yet, when having arrived, the appreciation becomes magnified. We all have such unique and inspiring journeys. There are special stories we have to tell, and it’s fact that we live off of people’s stories.

It is in that moment when I was really tired, and feeling thirsty, that a coconut appeared. It is in the moment I took a sip, and the moment I was grateful for stopping to take the break. If I didn’t stop, I wouldn’t have noticed the tree, that provided the coconut, and all of the beauty surrounding it. Let’s do our best to pay attention to the signs, and when necessary, stop for a drink of water.

What is your coconut?

Birth.

When anyone or anything is presented to this world, in that very first moment, it becomes a realization that they will serve a great purpose. There’s a gift within that is to be revealed, and shared. We are more in tune with this when we are young,  because often times those are the years in which our innocence has not been stolen. During our youth, our minds have not yet been completely tainted with arbitrary distractions. When we are young, we have the greatest dreams for ourselves. We have so much excitement, and that shows through laughter, love for others, the risks we take, and the simple joys that fill us up. We know that we love to play, sing, act, or even take charge. Then, we become introduced to society, systems, rules, standards, structures, politics, and trends. All of these things poison the human experience. So much, that we become forced to forget the dreams we had as children, and lose ourselves. We end up caught in the cycle of either meeting these social standards or becoming depressed because we can’t. All the while, subconsciously, we don’t want to live up to society’s expectations, because we know it’s just not natural. Our instincts speak through our gut, and we end up stuck in confusion because we know that’s what we’re really supposed to follow. We are to be living in nature, following dreams with a passion, understanding the capabilities of our gifts, and what it really means to share them with the world. The human experience is truly being alive. It’s falling in love with ourselves, and other people. It’s contributing to the earth, and being of service to others. It’s embracing human life and having compassion for one another. It’s exploring the world and becoming connected with the variations of people and cultures. It’s having respect for ourselves, and all life. It’s lending a helping hand, offering a listening ear, having an open heart, sharing ideas, speaking the truth, and being a part of something larger than ourselves. We are not to blend in, and pretend to be naive. It’s about owning our place, standing out, and making a humble contribution. Sometimes, it takes for people to die or be born, for us to realize all of this. Sometimes, it takes for us to become interested in a rebirth, to celebrate life. We are not living, if we are not giving. So, for those of us experiencing the shift, of being reborn each day, happy birth day! Every day we wake, is an opportunity to present our gifts.

Forever Young

FullSizeRender (14).jpgPuerto Viejo, Costa Rica. 2017

I watched the movie Collateral Beauty on the plane as I traveled to Costa Rica, and it touched me. It brought to surface, things I think about often – yet in a more abstract light: Love, time, and death. We all want love. We all need more time. We all fear, yet will experience death. In the movie, some characters became Love, Time and Death – to bring lessons to life. The lessons were triggered by loss, and the collateral beauty that comes with it. Loss changes us. Loss of a dear loved one, changes a person. I experienced that, and that loss introduced me to a new way of understanding life. The collateral beauty I choose to see is the spirit that outlives the flesh. Life is a short trip. Let’s think:

“We can’t go against time. Time should be upset with us if we take it for granted. Einstein calls time a stubbornly persistent illusion.” Time cannot be tracked, should not be tracked. We have all the time in the world! Time is a stubborn illusion!

“Love, is the fabric we are made of. We don’t get to choose who we love, and who loves us. We don’t get to say goodbye to love.” Accept love in all variations, and live abundantly. Love, it’s the only answer to the question “why?” Love, is the only reason to do all things. Don’t try to live without it. Love is the light and the darkness, the sun and the storm, in laughter and in pain. Love is all.

Do we pretend that time is unlimited? That death is unrealistic? We can make things up to be whatever we want, that’s the power of the mind, and it’s just that great. Death reveals things, it’s symbolic of change. It can also be an illusion. The body dies, and the spirit continues to live, louder.

In this moment, value all things present, and all things absent. In time, it will only be a memory, we will only be a memory. Let’s be fearless, and fully emerged in all things connected to love. Live out loud, have a dream, make it real, work hard, succeed, be grateful, see beauty in all things, and with that mindset, we are forever young.

Vinales, Cuba. 2017

Far beyond anything we can see with our eyes. Until infinity, as long as we believe. Take care of our minds, and our hearts, and exist forever. Keep a healthy self. Keep light. Keep love. Be light. Be love. Declutter and detach. Flow freely; be whimsical. Have a clear understanding on how to embrace and release all that comes and goes. Be still. Connect with the trees. Study nature. Become its reflection. Listen to the birds when they sing. Reject fear, judgement and discomfort. Welcome courage, and be courageous. Watch the changes right before our eyes. Don’t deny them. Pay attention to the evolution, within and around us. We are spirits. Let our spirits direct our steps. Trust in that, because it feels right. How much do we have to cover up? Layer up? Dumb down in make-up? Do not hide. Do not die. Do not subside. Awaken! Let’s get centered, balanced, lifted. Disconnect from “things” and get charged up! Find purity, and value that. Find innocence, and capitalize on that. Find radiance, and become drenched in that. Find the light, and never lose it again. Sing and fly as wild as birds. Grow strong and deeply rooted. The sky is beautiful. The ocean, so soothing. Let’s get back to nature, so much, that we become it.

What are we feeling?

What are we thinking?

What are we doing?

What are we saying?

What are we eating?

Is it all natural?

Does it come from nature?

What’s the energy like?

 Be still.

Peace.
