Teacher, Teach Her.

If it were ever a mystery, allow me to make it quite clear – I absolutely love nature.

It’s where I find comfort, inspiration, and the persistence to be more of myself with each given moment. It feeds my desire of releasing my inner child through play and laughter. It feeds my desire of balancing a light heart with peace of mind. In nature is where I become alive, and it is through my art where I am able to express my gratitude for life. I take what creates an impact on me, and I attempt to extend a form of flattery by imitating nature through creativity. It’s a cycle.

DMC Original Art is a world of my emotions in color. It’s a world that depicts my deepest frustrations and my highest joys. It’s a world where all of my hopes and dreams seep through my body and onto any blank canvas, transforming them into little pieces of my soul. It’s such a profound experience, and the end result is honorable. Artists literally create from the spirit, and then tangible pieces of our spirits are sprinkled out into the world. We truly become reflections of our environments, and we’re brave enough to share variations of ourselves with the world, as the world so shares with us.

This has been a year of deep gratitude and reflection. It has been a year of collective spiritual pain and disgust. And, in my “gotta look at the silver lining” frame of mind, it has been a year of beautiful growth. This year, I’ve literally witnessed myself evolve. I don’t take this realization lightly. It’s not a simple task for me to look at myself and say, “Wow, you’ve changed so much” and to be quite honest – it’s a phenomenal feeling. From the trees, to the sky, to the stars, I am rooted, but I flow.

My art is my teacher. It’s within each creation that has ever come into fruition since 2012 that has guided me, taught me, and showed me my true self. I’ve learned about what’s been below the surface through the colors I’ve been drawn to working with, the shapes that have appeared in series of paintings, to now even the power of fluid art and resin. I’ve gone from wrapping myself up in darkness and shapes, drawing boundaries of where I do and do not belong, to allowing the colors to blend as they wish, and becoming inspired by their free spirit. I’m proud of myself. I’m proud of the artist I am growing into and out of and I embrace the ongoing flight that will continue as I fly through nature becoming inspired to use paint as my way of giving thanks. I’m so grateful.

DMC Original Art is my baby! It is the world in which I learn the most, and the world that I am so proud to share with everyone else. It’s the world where I have zero rules, zero expectations, and ALL of the peace, love and light. It is everything, and nothing at all. That type of joy can’t be wished for, you just have to keep yourself open to receiving all that you don’t know you want and need.

My mission during this human experience is simple, it is to be in service of my soul. That is the definition of honor. That is spiritual freedom. That is living. That is receiving and giving. That is flow and alignment.

It is.

Lose Count

Coney Island, Brooklyn, NY. 2010.

It’s deeper than that. Deeper than the surface, the grains of sand, the ocean. Deeper than the flesh, the bones. It’s all worthless if you serve no purpose. Deeper than bank accounts and possession amounts. We’re still searching. This game of life, we’re all players, until we dive deep, peeling back the layers. We’ve been dressed up, made up, to forget what we’re really made of… Just love.

Just a spirit.

Just a soul, without limits.

Just wondering where the winds were born, where they traveled from, and where they’re off to next. Just wondering how the oceans stay put, all that water, and only once in a while does she hurricane her tsunamis.

Now’s the time to check your baggage. What are you carrying? Everything can’t go, and in due time – none of it can go.

Check your baggage, what do you possess, – is it un·quan·ti·fi·a·ble?

Imagine That.

“I decided long ago, never to walk in anyone’s shadows. If I fail, if I succeed, at least I lived as I believe.”

…about living your dreams

When we were young, we did not hesitate. We did exactly what we wanted to do, because all we knew was that moment we were in. We didn’t understand the concept of “future.” Look around, that’s all everyone is obsessed with. It’s a shame. Life is swept away, because it’s controlled by what has not yet happened. The flowers that stand today are overlooked, because people want to see the flowers that will grow tomorrow, as if that is more interesting, more valuable.

When we were young, we did not hesitate. Even when we were told not to do something, we listened to ourselves and did things anyway – it was human instinct to do that. It’s natural to listen to thyself, and allow the spirit to move you. We’ve been told “no” over and over again, to the point it has conditioned us to be fearful of simply trying. Reverse that condition! Change your environment, and go to a place where you believe in your desires and potential. Say “yes” to your dreams.

When we were young, we did not hesitate. We listened to our inner child. We played. We laughed. We vividly expressed our emotions. It was okay. It still is! We got hurt. We got back up. We tried new things. Then we were told what to do, all the time. That’s not always necessary, especially when the people telling you what to do don’t know what they’re doing themselves. We’re all just figuring it out. Stop walking in their shadows. Listen to yourself. Do what feels right. Let your spirit guide you. We’re all inspired by individuality, so just be yourself. Close your eyes, dare to dream, and when you open them – I hope and pray you’re where you want to be.

Keys to Outside.

Tuscany, Italy. 2017.

Once upon a time, I didn’t understand stillness. The kind that creates a simple balance by blocking out the noise. The noise of faces, words, actions, and ideas. The kind that makes you feel born again, entering the world anew, conscious of your spiritual presence. The kind that is unaware of “ego.”

The way the universe is set up, I know for sure I’m not alone. We are experiencing detachment from self-importance. Since we’ve begun to indulge in moments of stillness, our forever mood is abundant peace. We have become self-less. We have become silent. We have become our own meditation. We’ve had our epiphanies, our awakenings, our moments of reflection, our tastes of fulfillment. Our stillness has opened up the doors of joy, deeply rooted, and growing beyond our wildest dreams. We have become honest and forgiving. We are loyal to our heart’s desires. In any moment of dis-ease, we have grown up onto a level where we remind ourselves to breathe. We know it’s not supposed to be difficult, and when life presents itself to us as the unexpected game of pinball it is, we handle it.

We’ve decided to no longer pay for tickets to get on the emotional roller coaster, when we’re the one in control of the power button. We’ve learned to let the emotion run its course, and we have learned to gracefully move right along! We’ve matured into giving ourselves about a day to feel the feels, and then we get back on our feet, check in with our heart’s greatest desires, and we push through. We’ve been still. We’ve learned lessons. We’ve grown, so much, and we know our best days are ahead of us.

The greatest advice I’ve heard to date is to “Fall upwards into the embrace of the supreme. Stay low in the arrogance of person-hood, and we will taste the suffering. Choose the higher, even not having any firm conception of what it is. Overcome all attachments.”

Be Still. Be Free. Be You. Be True.

With love.

Golden Spirits

Caye Caulker, Belize. 2019.

Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened.” Dr. Seuss

Our intuition is golden. We have the powerful ability to read between the lines, and to hear silence ever so clearly. It’s the reason we move the way we do. It’s the reason we may find ourselves attached and detached. It’s the reason we are free or bonded. It’s why we find ourselves saying, “No obligations, no expectations, no disappointments.” When we have little to no expectations of people, and just hope for their honesty and integrity – we’re in a safe place.

Our intuition reminds us that it’s in control, and when we disregard it – there’s a great lesson to be learned. So, we vow to lack disappointing ourselves. We become encouraged to do as we feel, to live life to the fullest, and to stay in the moment. We become inspired to express ourselves, creatively. We stay true to ourselves, we reach for the stars, and we travel the world. We live the lives we dream of, and we wait for no one to join us on our journey. We know that when we do this, when we live our lives in this manner, the universe blesses us with more and more – exceeding our expectations, growing wilder than our imaginations.

We are so grateful for all that we have, and all that we do not have. We look forward to change, growth, new. We look forward to dreams becoming reality. We stay close to our emotions, doing as we feel, and honoring ourselves. We know that our soul needs to breathe easy, and we let it. This looks like flowing, floating, swaying, soaring, glowing and growing through time. This looks like forgetting the limitations of ourselves as humans, and being golden spirits. This looks like freedom.

“Intuition – the sense of knowing how to act spontaneously, without needing to know why.”

When you show yourself who you are, believe it the first time.

When people show you who they are, believe them the first time.” Dr. Maya Angelou

Yes, You.

Snapchat-1263379056

I am a butterfly, because I said so.

I’ve painted my own colors, and I fly where I wanna.

No one owes me a thing, and I sure don’t owe anyone else.

I owe it all to myself.

Many people quote “Living my best life,” and they should.

Why shouldn’t YOU?

My prayer is for everyone to find peace.

Within.

Everything will then fall into place.

Give yourself permission.

Allow your dreams to come true.

Allow your love to be wild.

Allow your life to speak volumes.

Allow yourself release to your inner child.

Yes, YOU!

Philosophies of Indian yogi, Sadhguru:

  • Stop thinking so intensely – that causes depression.
  • You’re not mad at somebody, you’ve just gone mad.
  • Nothing is stressful, it is the inability to manage your body, mind and emotions.
  • The problem is irresponsible growth of the human population.
  • It is not a privilege to be depressed so that you’ll get attention from somebody.
  • Life is not outside of you. You are life.
  • Every breath you take, you’re getting closer to your grave, every breath you take, you’re also getting closer to your liberation.
  • Spirituality is empowerment.
  • It would be wonderful if this world was guided by little children, because they are closer to life than anyone else.
  • Joy is a natural phenomenon. Misery is your creation.
  • It pays to be joyful!
  • Don’t be dead serious about your life. It’s just a play.
  • If there is something in your life which means something to you, you should not postpone it for a single day.
  • Whatever happens, ultimately, life corrects itself.
  • You can either live logically or magically. It’s your choice.
  • You know everything about the world, but you do not know anything about yourself. This is a ridiculous way to live.
  • Do not try to fix whatever comes in your life. Fix yourself in such a way that whatever comes, you will be fine.
  • The more conclusions you have, the less you experience life.
  • Do not try to be the best, just do your best.
  • Yesterday only lives in your mind.
  • Be the light of your life.

YES, YOU!

Drink of Water.

Bali, Indonesia. 2017.

It doesn’t happen right away, and that could be discouraging. When I think about something I’ve wanted really badly, having almost a yearning sensation for it, I had to wait. I’m not referring to the feeling of having a craving, getting the food desired, and feeling satisfied after, it’s deeper than that. It’s the moment I say to myself, “I want to get a degree in Journalism. I want to write a children’s book. I want to start painting. I want a place to call my own. I want to travel the world. I want…” It’s understanding the things that will truly add much value to my life, and my lifestyle, that will not come easily. It is having the desire for whatever I want, and surrendering once I’ve released those desires to the universe. I know in due time, I’ll have all that I’ve ever asked for, and until those moments I must prepare myself to receive them.

We all have desires, ones that we keep to ourselves, and ones that we’ve shared out loud, but what are we doing to prepare to receive all that we’ve been asking for? It’s a matter of consistency. It’s a matter of aligning all things within our lives to complement and support our desires.

I love to travel. I have a passion for it, and therefore much of what I do subconsciously revolves around it. I choose not to shop for materialistic things, but I make sure I have what’s essential to my way of living. At the start of 2014, I created a vision board of all things I wanted to manifest that year, or eventually. Looking back, within the year of 2014 up until now, everything on that vision board has been brought into fruition. The destinations I wanted to travel to, the characteristics I wanted to build on, the possessions I wanted to withhold, the jobs I wanted to transition into, the spiritual awakenings I wanted to experience, everything! It didn’t happen over night, over the course of one year, but they did happen! I worked toward it, never losing hope. Never giving up faith. I knew, in divine time, I’d have what I asked for, because I spent time preparing myself for it. Along the way, it was the little things, such as receiving a gift of a globe last year, with an inscription that reads my favorite line, “Happy is the girl who travels the world.” It was no coincidence, I attracted that into my life. It was meant for me to have, and now it sits in a special place in my home, as a daily reminder to be consistent with my passion for traveling.

It’s the moments in time that we must appreciate first. It’s the steps we have to take, to get where we want to go. It’s the faith we have to carry in our hearts, the spark we have to keep alive in our spirits. It’s the joys we have to feel wholeheartedly, the gratitude we must express, the hunger we have to feed, and the thirsts we have to quench. It’s the moment along our journey, when we simply become tired, but feel we don’t have time to take a break. That’s when we have to pay close attention to our paths. The universe knows us, sees us, and understands us. The universe conspires when we are tired, when we are ignorant, and tests us by placing before us exactly what we need in that moment, for the strength we need to carry on.

So, on my path, when I’m on a mission, but I know I’m feeling a bit tired, and “out of nowhere” a coconut that has fallen from the tree, is placed at my feet – I know there is no coincidence. It’s my choice to step over it and keep going, or stop to take the break I need. It’s the moment I ask myself if I’m too busy focusing on my destination, or am I open to all of the beauties and gifts presented to me along the way. I don’t know about you, but when the coconut falls, I’m stopping to pick it up. I’m figuring out a way to crack it open, take the sip, and revitalize the energy I need to carry on…

The dream is there, it’s not going anywhere, but the gratitude is even more sincere when there is no rush in getting to just that one place. Yet, when having arrived, the appreciation becomes magnified. We all have such unique and inspiring journeys. There are special stories we have to tell, and it’s fact that we live off of people’s stories.

It is in that moment when I was really tired, and feeling thirsty, that a coconut appeared. It is in the moment I took a sip, and the moment I was grateful for stopping to take the break. If I didn’t stop, I wouldn’t have noticed the tree, that provided the coconut, and all of the beauty surrounding it. Let’s do our best to pay attention to the signs, and when necessary, stop for a drink of water.

What is your coconut?

When anyone or anything is presented to this world, in that very first moment, it becomes a realization that they will serve a great purpose. There’s a gift within that is to be revealed, and shared. We are more in tune with this when we are young,  because often times those are the years in which our innocence has not been stolen. During our youth, our minds have not yet been completely tainted with arbitrary distractions. When we are young, we have the greatest dreams for ourselves. We have so much excitement, and that shows through laughter, love for others, the risks we take, and the simple joys that fill us up. We know that we love to play, sing, act, or even take charge. Then, we become introduced to society, systems, rules, standards, structures, politics, and trends. All of these things poison the human experience. So much, that we become forced to forget the dreams we had as children, and lose ourselves. We end up caught in the cycle of either meeting these social standards or becoming depressed because we can’t. All the while, subconsciously, we don’t want to live up to society’s expectations, because we know it’s just not natural. Our instincts speak through our gut, and we end up stuck in confusion because we know that’s what we’re really supposed to follow. We are to be living in nature, following dreams with a passion, understanding the capabilities of our gifts, and what it really means to share them with the world. The human experience is truly being alive. It’s falling in love with ourselves, and other people. It’s contributing to the earth, and being of service to others. It’s embracing human life and having compassion for one another. It’s exploring the world and becoming connected with the variations of people and cultures. It’s having respect for ourselves, and all life. It’s lending a helping hand, offering a listening ear, having an open heart, sharing ideas, speaking the truth, and being a part of something larger than ourselves. We are not to blend in, and pretend to be naive. It’s about owning our place, standing out, and making a humble contribution. Sometimes, it takes for people to die or be born, for us to realize all of this. Sometimes, it takes for us to become interested in a rebirth, to celebrate life. We are not living, if we are not giving. So, for those of us experiencing the shift, of being reborn each day, happy birth day! Every day we wake, is an opportunity to present our gifts.

Far beyond anything we can see with our eyes. Until infinity, as long as we believe. Take care of our minds, and our hearts, and exist forever. Keep a healthy self. Keep light. Keep love. Be light. Be love. Declutter and detach. Flow freely; be whimsical. Have a clear understanding on how to embrace and release all that comes and goes. Be still. Connect with the trees. Study nature. Become its reflection. Listen to the birds when they sing. Reject fear, judgement and discomfort. Welcome courage, and be courageous. Watch the changes right before our eyes. Don’t deny them. Pay attention to the evolution, within and around us. We are spirits. Let our spirits direct our steps. Trust in that, because it feels right. How much do we have to cover up? Layer up? Dumb down in make-up? Do not hide. Do not die. Do not subside. Awaken! Let’s get centered, balanced, lifted. Disconnect from “things” and get charged up! Find purity, and value that. Find innocence, and capitalize on that. Find radiance, and become drenched in that. Find the light, and never lose it again. Sing and fly as wild as birds. Grow strong and deeply rooted. The sky is beautiful. The ocean, so soothing. Let’s get back to nature, so much, that we become it.

What are we feeling?

What are we thinking?

What are we doing?

What are we saying?

What are we eating?

Is it all natural?

Does it come from nature?

What’s the energy like?

 Be still.

Peace.

Open Secrets

SAM_3686.jpg

Prospect Park, Brooklyn. 2016.

Anxiety. It sometimes gets the best of us. Our hearts take off running and jumping, in no particular direction. There are instances when we set ourselves up by setting expectations. No, let’s not do that so much. Let’s live, moment by moment.

Change. It sometimes manipulates what’s best for us. Our hearts stop, and we become nervous, concerned, even fearful. There’s something about what’s happening that appears too unnatural. Then it happens again, almost becoming a cycle. We’d hope to understand that it’s inevitable, only to find ourselves in anticipation.

Aspiration. It sometimes prepares the best in us. Our hearts direct us to search for the passion. There’s a fire that burns, and we calmly seek ways to keep it burning. We understand that the fire serves as light, warmth, and possibility. We need that.

Delight. It sometimes affects our best judgments. Our hearts are satisfied when we listen. There’s a particular attention span we’re supposed to have when it comes to our desires. We’re to be faithful, loyal, and optimistic. We’re to walk the path of satisfaction, with peace and joy as our footprints.

Tranquility. It sometimes encourages our best ideas, especially in times of uncertainty. Our hearts need regular moments of stillness and silence. There are pieces of us that we dive deep for, hoping to be strong enough to bring them to surface. All we’re really looking for is direction, to inspire our next move.

Vibe. It sometimes simply attracts the best energies, for us. Our hearts are in charge. We understand that, so we listen, and we follow. Harmony then exists. Doubt then exits. We’re able to extend ourselves, to experience joy on a level that goes beyond the universe. In those moments, we don’t ask why, or how.
